Will your Home Insurance be invalidated?
« on: April 22, 2011, 17:26:37 PM »
Just heard on the Channel 5 News that if you announce on social networking sites your holiday plans and dates, it will invalidate your home insurance.   Does not surprise me as the Insurance Companies will do anything to get out of paying a claim. [:(!]   Channel 5  were interviewing people at airports and a lot of them had announced on Facebook etc., they were going on holiday.  It also seems that children, without their parents knowledge give out holiday information on line, which will still invalidate their parents Home Insurance.  It seems that a lot of thieves are searching the net looking for people who will be going on holiday.
It's worth taking note of this news.  ;)

Sorry, but it's a sign of the times these days and anyone who broadcasts when their property is going to be unoccupied is just asking to be robbed.

When we o off on holiday we cancel the paper and the milk. We may even have some lights on a timer to ive the impression that the property is occupied. Then what do we do announce on facebook and other forums like this one we are off to the sun for a number of weeks.

I can fully understand why insurance companies get upset.

Anyone who cancels the papers and the milk is simply broadcasting that they will be away!

I do agree though - broadcasting it on FB or wherever is asking for trouble.

Another thing many people do which surprises me, they put name tags on their cases when flying out from the Uk with their address on, so any dishonest baggage handlers can tip the nod to friends that people are away.
