Jet2 - added costs

Just searched for flights for family who are going out later this year. I cant believe Jet2 are allowed to advertise that the "Fares shown NOW INCLUDE ALL TAXES & CHARGES"

Be careful......This is most definately NOT the case.
 
As you move through the booking you are charged,

1) A minimum of £19.99 each way for each bag you want to check into the hold. So £40 per passenger if you decide to bring your case back home again!
2) £10 per passenger to check in online OR £20 per passenger to check in at the airport.
3)£3.99 per passenger for a standard seat. Oh that's right, we are not allowed to stand or sit on the floor!
(If you want extra legroom it's £12.99 per passenger)
4)3.5% booking fee added to your total bill for paying by any means other than Solo or Visa Electron cards.
5) A further 3.5% payment fee added if you pay by Visa card and 1.5% payment fee added if you pay by Pay Pal.

These charges are before you have the choice of paying even more for, in-flight meal, insurance and in-flight entertainment. And before someone says it, I know that checking baggage into the hold for some people is not required however for most people it is.

How are they getting away with this? Why aren't they forced to add these charges to their advertised cost of the flight, so that everyone can clearly see what the TOTAL cost of the flight is?

I fear that, unfortunately, due to lack of competition in the airline industry (or dare I suggest it, price fixing between the airline companies) they will continue to rip us off while they can!

I've said on several other posts on here that Jet 2 charges are outrageous but for some reason Ryanair and Easyjet seem to get the bad publicity.  As you say onefurtheroad their flights always start out looking great value but by the time you've added everything on they are anything but.  I think they must charge the highest rates for checked in luggage of all airlines and of course if you re going away for 2 weeks you can't manage with even just 10kg of hand luggage. (well I can't anyway!).  Their only saving grace is that it's 22Kg instead of the usual 20.

In the interests of accuracy, there is no £3.99 charge for a seat on Jet2. There is a £3.99 charge for choosing your seats. I never do and always get seats together automatically. The charge to check in is the truly outrageous one - £10 to check in online and £20 to check in at the airport - that is a fixed charge as you can't avoid it - it should be £10 added to the flight cost, 'free' to check in online and £10 extra if you choose to check in at the airport. Surcharges that you can't avoid are costs, not options. You have to check in one way or the other.

On the other side of the coin, if you want a weekend away and can avoid suitcases, the final price (irrespective of how it was made up) can be superb. I try not to over analyse it all - if it's 1p for the flight and £99.99 tax and extras I do try to think of it as a flight for £100

All I say is boygot them if you can, the prices quoted by this airline are truly outrageous, any company/airline can charge what they like, using such an airline which trades and is outside the EU does not come under any EU rules so one has to also watch the compensation rules such as delays like last years ash cloud saga unless its in the small print ie: T&C you will not get your money back.

In my book anyone who uses JET2 must have money to burn.

Yes, you are correct about the £3.99 charge for the seat. It's not very clear though that you can skip this part.
I wish we could boycott companies that rip us off but unfortunately we dont actually have much choice just now.........particularly from the Scottish airports!!!!! But thats a whole other issue!!!!!

I have booked 1 way flights back to the UK with my 2 sons at the beginning of August with Jet2. I have booked a lot of extra luggage (we have 112kgs between the 3 of us) and entertainment consoles, and chosen our seats, for a total of 450 pounds, which was more than 100 pounds cheaper than the next priced airline at the time I booked. I am quite happy with that.

Another plus for Jet2 was when my family were stuck in Lanzarote last November, when all flights in & out of Arrecife were delayed by 24+ hours because of strong winds. Whilst my family were whisked off to a hotel for the night with all meals included, passengers booked on a variety of other charter flights were left to sit in the airport. Worth a little extra cost I would have thought.
