Hi,
No I don't think I will use Kent vet again - we had to have a cat "put to sleep" there (it had been involved in an accident and had broken it's back - it was done on the vets advice (before everyone tells me I should have done more / tried harder, etc., etc. in addition it wasn't my cat I was helping the owner who didn't have access to transport).
Rather than give the cat an overdose of anaesthetic as I have seen in the UK, they simply gave it a drug to stop it's heart, thus sending the poor animal into shock and convulsions rather than the peaceful end it could have had. I still live with the vision of that sometimes when I lie in bed at night, I find it hard to believe that anyone could intentionally do that to an animal, back home I would have taken it up with to the RSPCA. However we are in Turkey and perhaps that is what Kent vet think is the best way to do it; I do not, and so will not return there. Frankly I think it would have kinder to take a brick to it's head, at least that would have been quick and the poor thing would have known nothing about it.
Of course we have taken the cat to the vet before coming to this decision, to suggest otherwise implies that I am either stupid, tight fisted or heartless in this matter. We happen to use Lara Vet who seem to have a great care for the animals we have taken there, to the extent I actually enjoy watching him with the animals - he makes it as stress free as he can for them.
I don't know if they give a discount for street animals, we find that they are good and believe them to be reasonably priced so we use them on that basis. I don't recommend them to anyone, each must make his / her own choices in these matters, I am simply stating that I use them and will continue to do so having tried several others around Fethiye (I also like that he lives above the surgery so in an emergency he is there in minutes as we found out the other night when another neighbour's cat was hit by a car.)
There is nothing wrong with this cat that they can tell, yet it behaves as it does, but considerng the amount of back pain that humans experience and yet it is often impossible to diagnose the source despite them being able to voice the problem perhaps we should not be suprised that the same can exist in other animals.
Because of this (the cat's behavour) I am not looking to offload the animal where it will be with other animals and thus frightened or fighting all the time.
I have done what research I can to find a different solution so that it can continue with our other cats but have not been able to find one, if there is anyone here who is a cat behavioural specialist and has another suggestion then I would be happy to listen to that.
If there is someone who doesn't have a pet but would like to try with this little poppet I would be pleased to hear from them. If they want to try but are worried that it might not work out, I am prepared to take the cat back and re-assume responsibility for it.
