Actually on one of the occasions we flew with TC from Glasgow to Dalaman without the kids, I had booked our flights separately. On arrival at check in we were told that seats together was not possible. The reason given was that we were checking in late - we checked in 2 hours and 10 minutes before departure time which I would call early but anyway...

We were given boarding passes around 6 rows apart. When we boarded the plane we said a tearful goodbye and went to our own seats. Once the flight had taken off and the seatbelt sign went off, Mrs Scunner moved...to sit in the empty seat next to me!!!

It's ridiculous they should include the sit together in the price in the 1st place, a bit like luggage they know people going on holiday are going to have bags that are too big or heavy to take into the cabin.  I think they have deliberately started to split people up who haven't paid for the sit together so that they will next time, as soon as you ask can we have seats together at check in they ask have you pre-booked.

If there's just the two of you Ron then take a chance. You will probably get seats together but to make sure just be very nice at the desk and ask very politely if it's possible to get seats together. It always seems to work for us with TC.

I dont think this is just a Thomas Cook thing. We flew with Thomson in May, my daughter and myself booked together, my husband booked later as his was just a return flight from Dalaman and when we asked to be seated together we were told the seats were already allocated. Ater getting the THomson rep involved who requested we get seats together if there were free seats available, we were seated together. When we get on the plane the six or seven rows in front of us on both sides were empty. Not sure why all the fuss was made by  the check in staff at Dalaman but that seems to be the norm with them.
