Any boat trip recommendations
« on: July 24, 2011, 22:11:03 PM »
You used to be able to sign on for day trips at the water dolmus jetty. I guess the captains got tired of back and forth and wanted to break free occasionally. I spent a lovely day out with a newly married Turkish couple some years ago and we ate a delicious meal cooked by the captain at lunchtime after a swim at Cleopatra's Bath. It got a little hairy (quite a lot actually) in the afternoon when the water got choppy as the water dolmus design is not really build for cruising outside the bay.

Any up to date recommendations for trips on little or big boats from Calis or Fethiye?

The "water dolmus" design is not really intended for water dolmuses as they sometimes get grounded on the sand bank as they leave the river. I think they were originally fishing boats [?] correct me if Im wrong [?] They are fairly stable outside the bay and are still by far the best boat trips available. Especially for the food, the chance to fish, if you want and within reason to pick where you want to go  8)

Kenkay - sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I was in any danger at any time and my judgements are those of a complete landlubber. I should have added that it was a wonderful day out that I would repeat in a heartbeat given the chance. I take it I can still enquire along the Calis terminus for day trips?

I always book online with Carole & Tayfun before we travel.  You save money that way especially if, like us, there are quite a few of you to pay for.  Lots of recent info on this if you use the search facility above.   :)

Would recommend their Islands tours and the Sunset Cruise.

Enjoy your holiday.   :)

I liked Popeye and Olive Oyl boats last year, same old 12 Island tour but boat easy to get on and off and the food was fab for a cheap daytrip boat, barbecued chicken and fish, both, not a choice of either like a lot of the daytrip boats do, salad, pasta, potato salad etc Watermelon later in the day
But havent done this year yet so dont know if the standards are the same Maybe someone can enlighten us

Can highly recommend Jerry. We had two trips with him on Deja Vu 2 this year. There were 22 people on boat (Turkish/British) and Jerry goes out of his way to ensure everyone has a great time. Deja Vu 1 was out of action for a brief time due to engine problems. We returned  on our last trip with Jerry to see the engine of Deja Vu 1 loaded on a truck to be repaired.
I am fairly certain that both boats are now back in action. The food on board is exceptional and the balance of sailing and swimming stops are perfect.
Jerry has a variety of fishing rods and snorkeling gear on board. You can have a restful or an active excursion and all drinks are noted down on trust.
Ask any restaurant on Calis Seafront and they will point out Jerry who walks there in the evening.----Enjoy.
