Knock on effect of scrapped Aegean flights
« on: August 04, 2011, 19:50:10 PM »
We've been seriously looking since last weekend to book to come to Calis in September. I am soooooo mad we didn't book the flights on Monday that we saw on line. I had to get authorisation yesterday from my line mananager to have that week off. Thomas Cook flights were around £260ish each from Glasgow, now they are nearly £700 for the 2 of us, before the addition of luggage and all the extras. I wouldn't dream of paying that for flight only, so this evening we've admitted defeat and have booked for Tenerife instead. It's worked out less than T.C flights to Dalaman, and that includes the rental of a 1 bedroomed apartmentfor a week!!!

We booked our flights last year for Aberdeen  thank goodness as there have been no flights at all from Aberdeen to be booked.  My daughter has tried since July all flights have all been booked up.  It's such a shame another Company does not come into Scotland and give T.C. a bit of competition.  I knew as soon as I heard about Aegean going bust that T.C. would put up their prices.

Sorry Toky,  We will miss you... have to keep your drinks on ice until next year Inshallah

Hi Toky,

You need to think about next May now as i have been watching the prices for the last 10 days and they have certainly increased:(

£225 return for 2  seats 10 days ago, now £497:(, couldn,t book as we both had to get it all cleared with our work

decided to take the plunge yesterday and booked 2 seats stansted to dalaman with easyjet good daytime flights both ways £364 all in..today they are £386 no luggage or card charge included in that :o

We're seriously reconsidering now too Rosemary. We're going to keep watching over the next few weeks to see what happens.  If they don't drop down any then we too will be going elsewhere.  Our little bit of Turkey doesn't seem so appealing right now.
Surely it's time the government stepped in and put a stop to this sort of rip off!

Yes there is the knock on effect that means that many people stuck in Calis have spent their holiday money and people due there with bulging wallets are now not going to be there - just on here we have Toky missing (Tenerife) Steve Redding missing (Motorhome to Devon/Cornwall) and a large number of people who simply can't book new flights prior to getting compensated for the Aegean ones that aren't now happening.

The net result of all that for Calis is, dozens of restaurant tables that would have been occupied for dinner won't be, all the excursions lost and so it goes on and on. A very bad situation for Brits and Turks alike :-\

Considering we got a week in April/May this year for the grand total of £335 icluding flights, transfers and hotel, these new prices are really silly!
I am sorry your holiday plans are in turmoil Anne, you must be fuming. Hope you're lucky and get something.

Started to write the above post, then got caught up on a phone call before posting. I agree Scunner that the knock on effect will be huge, not only to Calis but all the resorts serviced by Dalaman. As I said, I really hope it is a temporary situation for all involved, (here & in Turkey), and we'll get back on track next year.
