Flying from Gatwick and the new all singing all dancing security systems I was wondering about bringing out Bacon, obviously packed in hold luggage, now how much can we get away with? Anyone taken any to Turkey recently from Gatwick?

Last year we brought out 2.5kg,and 5kg cheese, I just want to get a little more adventurous

5kg bacon.

I don't think there are any restrictions on taking food out of the UK - I may be wrong but I've had my cases searched - even hand luggage - and cheese, bacon, sausages, you name it physically removed, identified and returned. We had one bag searched and when the 6 large blocks of cheddar were found and taken out they said "Oh, cheese! On the scanner we thought it might be cartons of fruit juice". Cheddar returned, pulse returning to nearer normal, on our way

I wasn't sure, or old-timers setting in and can't remember what we usually do, I do know we can't take Turkish Sausage back to the UK.

We go to cash 'n' carry and buy 2.5kg bacon £5-6 and 2+kg cheese for £4 I just can't resist at those prices, catering size items for friends restaurant, bloody good job we have most clothes out there!

We took packs of bacon, butter and cheese out of Gatwick airport a month ago - no problems at all. All packaged in a cool bag in our suitcase!

Never had a problem from Manchester.
We always freeze the bacon, cheese and sausage when we buy them. Just before leaving for the airport we remove them and place them in an insulated freezer bag.On arrival at the apartment they are all still frozen.

Always travel from Manchester and brought a few cheese rounds over in hand luggage - 4.5kg. Got the odd comment and suprise from staff but never had a problem. If the bacon is sealed you shouldnt need to freeze it, i would freeze loose cut though.

When flying from Glasgow we take bacon, cheese, blackpudding, sausages, mince pies, never had a problem.

No problems,infact my case is packed for dalaman out bound the 5th,a few basic clothes the rest bacon,susages,cheese,butter,tins of fish,baked beans,tinned tomatoes,tin salmon,tuna,everthing i can get in a case barring the kitchen sink.

Tuna?? You can get tuna nearly everywhere there!
