Nil Bar
« on: September 05, 2011, 17:18:06 PM »
Have just returned from nearly 3 weeks in Calis and as usual had a fantastic time.  We decided to eat at Nil Bar 1 evening as had heard great things about the place.  The food was about the best we had, hubby had steak cooked to perfection. However, there is a big however...we arrived and sat at a table unnoticed & tried hard to get the attention of 1 of the waiters huddling around the bar, we were finally acknowledged with a wave but it was a further 10 minutes before we were approached & given a menu & asked what we wanted to drink, we ordered drinks & again had a wait some time for them to arrive, understandable if it was busy but only another 5 tables of people seated. we managed to order our meals after another lengthy wait & trying to get the waiters attention. Not once during our meal were we asked if everything was ok etc & we were not approached at all.  After we finished we waited & waited to see if we were going to be offered dessert or more drinks but alas not, in the end hubby had to get up & go over to the waiter to ask for the bill, which was bought after another lengthy wait & just put on the end of the table with no eye contact or word spoken & dirty plates, glasses etc left where they were.  As I say the food was superb but it's no good if it's not coupled with good service & this would definagely put us off going again.  We prefer not to be rushed during a meal or to have staff constantly badgering us but this was completely the opposite of what we experienced elsewhere.  Other customers were also having the same problem, except 1 table of 8 who were obviously regulars, but shouldn't everyone have the same standard of service. Having spoken to
others who have eaten there in previous years, they also said the service wasn't as good this year.  Apologies if Nil Bar lovers are offended by these comments but it's an honest account of what happened. 10/10 for food, nil points for service. :(

That maybe so cheers and they certainly deserve one, but they should ensure that their customers are catered for in the same way as if they were there.

I totally agree Mr H.  And I'm sure after being told about this post Angel won't be having many more nights off in the near future.  ;)

Having just returned to UK from a 4 week break in Calis, we are so surprised to hear of the complaint of slow service and neglect.    Angel is a model businesswoman and majority of us return to the Nil restaurant during our stay because she and the other staff give us such good service and make us welcome and the food is consistently very good.   I suggest this might have been an isolated occasion and presumably the complaint was made to the Nil at the time.  I have no doubt that Angel and Serdar would have addressed this issue immediately to avoid a recurrence.

As I said previously, apologies to the Nil Bar fans, obviously someone was going to take offense & yes the food was superb, as I said the best! No complaint made...who to? A bunch of waiters who probably wouldn't have passed on the concerns, although we agreed that if we were approached when passing by after, we would have politely refused & given the reasons why. We thought the best thing to do was to put it down to experience but maintain & stand by our original post, it really was the worst service we had & we ate in lots of places including Brothers, Mangal, Serkul 1 & 2, Georges, Palms, Dennis the menace, Maria's, Cassa Di Mamma's, Soul etc etc etc! No complaints about the service in any other establishments although some obviously were better than others.

Only ever been to Nil Bar once and never again. We ordered coffee and before we had a chance to put milk or sugar in it, the waiter came along to take the milk jug.We told him we hadn't used it and he went away. 1 minute later he was back to take the milk and sugar!! That waiter was rude and certainly put us off going there again.
