Kindle - which one?
« on: October 19, 2011, 18:23:42 PM »
It is possible to buy on Amazon a smaller lighter Kindle for £89 with Wi-Fi and a 5 way controller or for £149 a Kindle with 3g + Wi-Fi and a keyboard.

The other main differences are the length of battery time - one month vs two months and the amount of storage 2GB vs 4GB.

Does anyone have any advice about which one would be the better purchase particularly re the 5 way controller and if the differences justify the price difference?

Thanks

The screen size of the smaller one is the same, and that for me is the important bit, the battery charge life on the larger one may be better but when will anyone ever need two months between charges, and the smaller 2GB memory is still a load of books, so no great loss there.
So if its only to be used as an Ereader then the wee ones more than ample - wish it had been available last year.

i just bought a wifi kindle 111.00 pound,i thought dont need 3g over here i will just download the books at home on wifi
i often turn the pages by mistake so i think a smaller one would be harder to hold and maybe cramp your hand

I'm waiting to see if the prices tumble now that they've announced the launch of the new colour Kindle Fire.

Amazon's basic Kindle is used for reading eBooks. The Kindle Fire will combine this feature with the ability to play music, films and games and surf the internet. (Daily Mail)

I'm aware that you're asking about a Kindle but I've just bought a Nook (first edition) and absolutely love it.
It can read many types of books (including pdf and epub) and it has wifi.

I've bought it new through Sahibinden.com and only paid 240 TL for it.

Say for arguements sake a friend of yours had a file which contained 955 ebooks in .mobi format and you wanted a copy of it because you know that this is the format that the Kindle uses.  If that friend was a member of CBF you'd probably contact them via their profile wouldn't you?:D

I'm in the states at the moment and the base kindle is the equivalent of £50 here
