Kindle - which one?
« Reply #10 on: October 19, 2011, 21:54:37 PM »
I have a view quest e reader which I love.  The screen is like a mobile phone screen and I can't read it all in the sunlight - however, it is great for reading in bed!  It also has an sd card slot so can play movies etc on it.  Having just spent a week trying to read it in Turkey in the sun, I now want a Kindle!!!  I was thinking the 3g one would be a great idea for downloading daily newspapers in our apartment (we have no internet there etc) - am I right?

The question is basically which Kindle to buy and you post about file sharing, hence the question!

Wow - someone goes off topic, that never usually happens on here does it?  :)

Ok let me put it another way -  If you want 955 Kindle ebooks for nothing you'll have to send me a 2GB memory stick and a postage paid return envelope. Contact me via my profile.

Which part of "for nothing" is confusing you? I'm simply offering those members who own Kindle an opportunity to get 955 books for free by sending me a memory stick and I'll copy the books on to it and send it back them. There is no selling and no advertising taking place, I'm not asking for any payment or reimbursement other than a postage paid return envelope and any time that I spend doing the copying and posting is as a favour to fellow CBF members. Got it now?

On the topic of "is paying extra for a 3g kindle worth it" I'd say definately yes. The experimental browser function gives you free internet access, if fact I am on this forum writing this response on my kindle. As a side note, the US and UK cover different areas to different levels of capability. According to the amazon 3g coverage maps, the UK covers turkey to a high level, the US covers it to a medium level - most of the kindles you can buy on sahibiden are from the US. I'm really glad I spent the extra money as I like to check emails whenever rather than having to find a wireless hotspot, I also like that it is free! The new colour kindle has wireless but not 3g.

Thank you Nichola
I thought a kindle was a device to read books and wondered why there was a keypad on it.
After reading  this thread I am completely lost and wondering if I should get one.  If only to find out what it does.
Steve I may be in touch ;) ;)

Interesting subject as we are thinking of getting one each (yes including Mr Suspicious)and have been told that because 2 of us want a Kindle that we should only buy them in one name and then we can file share each others books. If we bought in individual names we would not be able to do file sharing. Again we've been told that 3G seems to be best as you can download from anywhere in the world rather than having to find a WiFi hotspot.I have WiFi at home..
Then you meet someone who has a ereader(not Kindle) that tells you not to bother with Kindle as you're restricted to use only Amazon books????/
Then another person tells you that if you use a free program called Calibre to convert epub or similar to mobi you can get them onto your Kindle.....so you can download from any e publisher including WHS
Then they announce the Fire just to add more confusion????
All I want to do is read a electronic book and have the widest range of choice I can get!
Now thinking that the old format of book sharing was and is still pretty darn good....lol
