New question re chimney sweep
« on: October 23, 2011, 07:00:07 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has rods for chimney cleaning.  We have the brush and tried using rope yesterday to pull/push, alas without success.  It's very annoying as we packed our chimney brush and rods when we moved out here but the rods disappeared somewhere between the UK and Izmir:-\
Many thanks.

If you buy a set of drain rods they fit together perfectly.  We have drain rods with an attachment for sweeping the chimney.  So you can kill two birds with on stone, clean the drains and your chimney
Try your local plumbers merchant.

The village/traditional way to clean a chimney is, apparently, to drop a live chicken into the top of the chimney and as it goes down it panics, flapping it's wings like mad and doing a great sweep as it descends.

Jeez...poor chicken.  We had a bat who came down the chimney a few weeks back...would that have the same effect ;)

It's a double bonus using the chicken - first you get a lovely clean chimney and later a lovely smokey flavoured chicken dinner.
