Bad quality of Efes Beer?
« on: December 12, 2011, 11:53:14 AM »
Anyone also noticed that, since about a year, the quality of Efes beer is all but constant. One time good and another time it tastes as if there's  some kind of detergent in it.
We switched to Tuborg gold, much more constant quality and lately more and more bars sell it.
Unfortunately many owners that have a contract with Efes are not allowed to sell it.
My advice to Efes: get your standards in order or let the bar owner free in his/her choice.

I asked around and I'm quite a regular visitor of the local establishments, most people I asked agreed with me and quite a few restaurant/bar owners know the problem, some of them switched over to Tuborg and had problems with Efes because of that.
So what's your point.

Tuborg is worse. cant stand the stuff. Not an efes drinker myself. It is either Guinness or carlsberg.

Could be just a bad batch coming out of Effes. Could also be caused by bad sanitation and sterilising of fermenting tanks and or problems with the mashing or boil can all cause 'detergent' or off flavours to come through as could fermenting temps. Some problems also come to light when the vast majority of bars do not wash and dry their glasses properly - i.e.  alot of them wash with detergent in cold water and leave to air dry on plastic racking. I have a had a few that are flat as hell with no head at all and no bubbles rising which there should be if a glass has been cleaned properly in the first place.
Hopefully the bar owners have taken up the subject with Effes, meanwhile i'll brew my own.

I noticed much the same but i thought it was sometimes a 'metallic' taste.

Metallic taste could be he water quality at the brewery is not constant, I mean sometimes somewhat more iron in it gives a metallic taste. High amounts of iron can have a rather inconvenient side effect too. :-\
