The 3C's go Christmas Shopping
« on: December 15, 2011, 17:03:35 PM »
The 3C's went Christmas Shopping this week and here is what we bought::::

On the first day of Christmas the 3C's bought for Bayir school - a large village school located off the Antalya road on the way to Seki -

19 winter coats, 42  pairs of strong boots and shoes, socks, tights and tracksuits, 1 school bag,  4 electric sobas, 3 woodburning sobas, 10 soba buckets, 30 soba pipes, a computer sound system, 4 footballs, 4 volleyballs,  2 handballs, 2 basketballs, loads of craft materials, pencils, paper, finger paints, reading books, 2 donated printers and a pair of weighing scales (every school is now required to weigh the children).

On the second day of Christmas the 3C's bought for Cumhuriyet School -

2 overhead projectors and screens, 2 donated laptops, 60 packets (12 boxes) of photocopy paper, 240 exercise books, 50 notebooks, hundreds of pencils, rubbers and sharpeners, giant Lego, 7 glove puppets, face paints, play dough, lots of wooden puzzles, jigsaws, reading books, stencils and lots of other educational pre-school toys and games.

On the third day of Christmas the 3C's bought for Eldirek village school -

An outside playground activity centre with slide, cargo net and climbing frame, 2 sets of double swings, 2 seesaws and 4 large wooden picnic tables complete with benches.

On the fourth day of Christmas the 3C's bought for Ortakoy village school -

1 overhead projector and screen and  three 18000 bthu air conditioning units to heat  the nursery and first and second year classrooms  (these rooms had no heating and the school did not want sobas where there were very young children)

On the fifth day of Christmas the 3C's bought for Derekoy  school - a small village school up in the mountains -

2 sets of double swings, 2 seesaws, 2 large wooden picnic tables with benches, giant Lego, a basketball hoop with stand, 2 footballs and a basketball, 2 spacehoppers, a large selection of story books, 3 glove puppets, exercise books and pencils, stencils,  playdough, face paints, skipping ropes and a selection of educational toys.

On the sixth day of Christmas the 3C's bought for Karslioglu school - a large school near the university in Tasyaka-

a new laptop to operate the projector for the first year class

On the seventh day of Christmas the 3C's bought for the local Girls Rehabilitation Centre -

2 backgammon and  2 Okey sets,  Metropol, and Tabu board games, Scrabble, Jenga,  3 large jigsaws, a donated digital camera, a refurbished football table and a magnetic dartboard.

On the eighth day of Christmas the 3C's bought for Bozalan Village School, one of the poorest schools in the Fethiye education area  located high up in the mountains --

half the cost of roof repairs  to replace the badly leaking roof (the classrooms were so wet that they could only use two rooms out of four), a full log burning sealed central heating system with radiators in all classrooms (donated to the 3C's by a very generous  anonymous sponsor for them to allocate to a suitable school) :.. and hopefully  lots and lots  more on this special project to be announced in the New Year - watch this space!

In the days before Christmas the 3C's also purchased -

56 full sets of school uniform for children from poor families in the Fethiye area and we also committed to funding 15 annual university bursaries to assist poor students in the local area to attend university.

All of the above items have either been purchased or are on order and will be delivered and installed  within the next couple of weeks. In the case of the student bursaries, we have committed to paying 1,500 TL every month for the academic year.

The cost of all of these purchases  once the invoices have been received and paid from the 3C's special  bank account held by FETAV (Fethiye Foundation for Tourism, Promotion, Environment, Culture and Education)  is estimated to be in the region of 45,000 TL - approximately £15,000.   This does not include the cost of our sponsors central heating system and other donated items.

As items are delivered, members of the 3C's committee will  be visiting all of the schools over the next month and will provide a report and photos of each project so that you can see where all the money raised has been spent and,  best of all,  see the smiling faces of the children.

None of these purchases would be possible without the help and generosity of our wonderful supporters.  Whether you have donated unwanted items to, or purchased items from, our charity shop or the committee stall at our monthly car boot sales, have paid for a stall at one of our fairs or car boots, attended one of our many fundraising events, bought out items for our raffles or purchased  a raffle ticket, donated or pledged an item or service to our annual Promises Auction or put a bit of loose change in one of our collecting buckets

you are the ones that have made all this possible.  Thank you all so much.

All of us at the 3C's would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year and would like to thank you all wholeheartedly for your help and support.

What a list, what an achievement - amazing!!! Well done to 3Cs and everyone who helps, or arranged an event or put a coin in a collection bucket. Everyone makes it all happen. Thanks for posting Chrissie, it's the best part of fund raising - the spending :D
