Excellent - thank you for those photos, I love seeing old pictures, amazing to think there was once a railway line running through Calis - no signs of that today, and no sign of the canal??

The railway line was for transporting locally mined chromium onto boats that docked at the end of the beach (now Sat Restaurant).

If you walk out towards the Sat at the end of the beach and take a close look as you walk along the footpath, you can still see the old rail lines in places.
Also if you take a swim in the sea you'll probably stub your foot on one of the old blocks of concrete that was part of the construction..:D

Yes I wanted to swim to Sovalye Island from there but someone had changed the points and I ended up in Rhodes! Farmer posted saying there was (I think) a land shift caused by earth tremor that tipped the tracks seaward, so that was the end of that.

A neighbour (a guy in his 70's) regularly swims over to the island and back. He once told me that the sea was very choppy one day so he did the return swim underwater!

Being a comparative 'Newbie' to Calis.....just over 3 years.......was lovely to see the old photos of Calis and Fethiye.Quaint and charming, but life goes on and everthing changes.Sometimes for the better and sometimes not.
