Whilst living in Calis for two and a half years between 2004 and 2006 I soon realised that it was impossible to get draught Guinness anywhere. My search for Dublin's finest eventually took me to Marmaris, Bodrum, Kusadasi and finally Istanbul where I had an enjoyable evening at Turkey's best known Irish Pub, the James Joyce. Here they were charging TL 20 for a small can of Guinness and I was reliably informed thet Turkey was one of the world's few major countries where it was impossible to buy draught Guinness.
In May I am returning to Calis for a couple of months for the first time since 2006 and I was wondering if this sad state of affairs still exists.

Yes/No....it is recently become more widely available - I have it on good authority that Guiness will be available int he Shamrock in time for St Patricks Day this year.

I stayed in Liverpool this weekend, ordered a pint of Guinness and the barman opened a can of Guinness which looked like flat coke, after he had poured it into the glass, he placed it onto a machine and as if by magic, it came to life and developed a creamy head. Tasted good too ...
Bring it to Calis !!

It is sold in quite a few places here now. Although I must stress that the James Joyce is not popular for those that know any better as they have a reputation for ripping you off. I certainly never go there after I walked out of there during a six nations match a few years ago. For a better place, go to the U' bar which is a couple of streets away.
