EasyJet Hand luggage
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:06:27 AM »
I have just received an e-mail from Easyjet, the usual one which you receive prior to travelling. Re hand luggage: they state that hand luggage will be checked at check-in AND at the gate. They state the size restrictions but they also state that any luggage which is bulky or oversized will be charged at £40/50e prior to boarding. There goes the philosophy of filling my "expanding" bag to capacity AFTER check-in.  OOOOPS  ;)

Well that could be a bit of a blow, as we sometimes try the 'expanding bag' trick too.  When do you fly Ray?  We fly out to Dalaman on 10th May, not had email yet.

This has always been the case. They don't always do it, but they've always stated that they can. As the number of people opting for hand baggage only increases (normally to avoid paying to check in a case), the problems with not enough overhead locker space increases, so they know when to start measuring the hand baggage - not to make money (although they won't mind that) but to reduce the amount of bags getting into the cabin to ease the storage problem.

We flew with them a few weeks back and when we got to the gate they did not weigh the hand luggage but were announcing only one piece of and luggage was allowed plus one bag of duty free was also allowed. We are flying next week with Monarch and had the same email from them stating the measurements of the case and how it will be checked at the gate and if over 10 kilo (that is Monarch's hand luggage policy)then you will have to pay for hold luggage and I think the price was £50! I shall be getting my scales out before we set off :)

Since they started going to Jersey I have been out four times  with them.
Each time folk have had their bags checked at the departure lounge.

If in doubt book bags online as it cost us 25 pound to check our daughters bag in at the airport.  We made sure it was ok to come back[:(!]

We flew here with Easyjet and had only hand luggage. What they said at the gate was if you want to put it in the hold you can, at no charge. There was no checking at the gate. I suppose it all depends on the circumstances prevailing at the airport/flight when you travel.

I asked Tommy Cook last year if I could put 2 hand luggages in the hold to save carrying it round the airport.
No problem was the answer, but you will have to pay for it.

They usually send e-mail 3-4 days prior to flight (EasyJet).

I flew back to the UK at the beginning of April and was really careful about my hand luggage size and the fact you can only have one (no camera case extra etc).  When we got to check in I was amazed at just how many people had really huge rucksacks and wheelie bags that were without any doubt much larger than the stated limit.

When we flew back however, the check in staff were asking people to put their hand luggage into the guage to check the size.
