The Humps have gone
« on: July 10, 2012, 21:50:09 PM »
All the traffic calming humps on the harbour road into Fethiye have been flattened. Good idea so long as the traffic keeps at the correct speed. I for one am happy as there was 1 hump near Yakamos that was far too high.

I remember taking a mini-bus trip some years back to Olu and couldn't understand why the driver hurtled along at some speed and then all of a sudden 'jammed' all on, crawled for 2-3 seconds then set off apace only to do the same thing several times.....we remember it everytime we go over 'bumps' at home that almost shake the wheels off the car!

WHY is it that some drivers in Turkey and UK will drive to the kerb to go over the hump.  It may mean they have two wheels going over a shallower hump, but what does that really gain?  PLUS it is very annoying when it's the driver in front of you that is dodging all over the road, to do this.  Makes me wish I had a bazooka launcher fitted to my car.

I counted these humps once and from Calis to Fethiye there were 13. Yes I am sad I know. Going to the side of the road is supposed to save your car suspension. Well thats what a friend told me.

I seem to recall that previous "humps" were removed owing to the ambulance drivers complaining. Particularly annoying were the rubber strip ones.

The humps did slow some of the drivers down, gave you a chance to get out from the side roads.
