Not sure if you all know this but for those who don't it might be worthwhile?

My daughter booked 4 seats to come over July 21st for 2 weeks.
One seat became available - so I said "why don't you ask Natalie (aged 16) if she wants to bring a friend along and they can pay for a name change?

This was agreed and the friend was excited so no-one wanted to let her down when this transpired.

The original flight was £190 - Easyjet then charged £35 each way for name change PLUS the difference between the price at the time it was book (£190) minus current price (£440) = £250

So Easyjet have now had £190 (original price) + £70 (name change) + £250 (price difference) = £510

To add insult to injury - Easyjet pointed out to my daughter that they don't refund if the current price has reduced!!!!!

I would have expected a price differential for changing flights but we had already paid for this seat and surely £70 would have been enough to change the name?????

On a positive note Easyjet have provided us with half a dozen flights over the past couple of years that have been consistently very efficient with nice planes and good crew and always on time.

While I do think your daughter's experience to be a 'rip-off' by Easyjet, I must come to their defence.  On 10th May this year we were due to fly out with Easyjet from Manchester.  We'd got these flights dirt cheap by booking as soon as they were released and only paid £237 for the two of us including baggage.  However, the night before, I was taken ill with food poisoning and under no circumstances could I even get out of bed never mind fly to Turkey!   Only thing we could try to do was change the flight with Easyjet and pay any extra costs.  We rang them direct and got a flight four days later.  When we asked what charge was they said none, the flight times had changed slightly from the original one so it was deemed an 'operational change'.
Not being quite able to believe our luck I asked if they were sure and yes, they were sure.

Everything else we changed without a problem so, although we missed 4 days holiday, it was all sorted pretty well.

Good comfortable flights too with good legroom.

Pity they have to let themselves down sometimes with stories like this.

Marina - I do agree that we cannot fault their service on our past few flights - in fact our favourite airline until this happened  :-[

I just cannot believe that they need the money more than the bad press they will ultimately get for things like this as most people would just book another flight with another carrier or tell them to get lost - so I can't believe it is a great profit earner for them?

My daughter did it because they didn't want to let a friend down and at 15 and a half she was too young to book a different flight but I can't think many would have proceeded with the transaction?

I agree Ian, in the same circumstances I would probably have done just that and it's a pity that your daughter has had to go through such an experience.

The trouble is, as long as they are providing cheap flights to popular destinations people will still use them and 'forget' about instances like this until it happens to them.

I must say Easyjet are our preferred airline for Dalaman and could understand that if someone is changing to a different flight then yes they would have to pay the difference. I'd find this cost extremely hard to swallow, when the seat has already been reserved and paid for how can they justify another £320 to change a name - disgraceful!!

They can change your flights at a drop of the hat so why charge the extra?  The name change you could live with but the extra??   ???
