« on: July 25, 2012, 15:50:29 PM »
Hi  can you tell me what the exchagne rate is in Calis at the moment.  We are coming over next week and need to know if to bring Sterling or get the Lira in the UK.

Thanks    :)

Best bet is to bring a few lira with you & exchange the remainder when you arrive. The rate here has been pretty static around 2.8 for a few months now

I 2nd that.  We always change up just enough in the UK to get a few essentials when we arrive and to eat, then change the rest out there. We've always found the rate to be higher than the UK.  We got 2.72 with Thomas Cook online reserve and collect service yesterday.
3 more sleeps to go.  ;D

I put this Yahoo page below in my Favourites in my browser and usually just leave it on and refresh the page when I look at it. From this I can get a good idea when to change although of course things can change rapidly in the World these days!

I watched it and when it got to 2.93 changed £600 to Lira. As it has turned out this year I would still get around
2.8 in Turkey but I bought back in May and a loy can happen between then and September. It actually went to 2.95  for a few hours. Now, if by the time I go to Calis the rate has gone up and upi get 3 Lira I may have made a mistake  ;D

Did you get 2.93 in the UK - it was only just above that in Turkey - Brenda was only getting 2.80 at the end of May. :(

No the site gives you broad figure not including any cnage comssions etc. Think I got
2.83 after commissions etc. Generally always better in Turkey but occasionally higher internationally.

I just looked at past few years and thought I would buy while I could as it was a lot more than I got
previously  8)

I would say you still did extremely well getting 2.83 in Mayin the UK . I must change my hard earned pennies where you do ;D

I am afraid I didn't understand about the "ocassionally higher internationally".
