Do remember from 30 odd years ago when working in Glasgow, having deep fried Meat Pie Supper on a regular basis. Good memories. Not sure which would have the highest fat content between the two?

Love butter but have not eaten it since my husband was diagnosed with high cholesterol about 10 years ago.  Agh the thought of deep fried butter turns my stomach.

I remember from my (numerous) summer "holidays" in Scotland as a child the amazing chips from the chippy - deep fried in dripping in those days as I recall. They were fabulous, like nothing you'd get at home in England. Sadly (or maybe not) that's all gone these days. Deep fried Mars Bars I have never seen for sale in Scotland, but everything else on the menu in chippies does seem to be deep fried - including pizza - and much to my regret, the choice of one of our daughter's - cheeseburger and chips, where the cheese is actually INSIDE the burger, which is deep fried :o

I should point out that a trip for the chippy for dinner (tea up here!) is a rare treat.

The story I was reading on the BBC News website just before I came here was asking the "Do people really eat deep-fried Mars bars ... or is it an urban myth? The answer, in the article, was a resounding "Yes". But the identity of people are is less clear. Some may be English tourists seeking the authentic Scottish experience! That's Scotland in a nutshell - Wee Jock with a deep-fried Mars bar up his kilt. Should be on McGill postcards
