Craft fair In Kaya Village
« on: September 11, 2012, 09:45:56 AM »
I know this should probably be in the Kayakoy section but I thought that more people would see it on here and may like to go.  There is a craft fair being held in Kaya Village on Saturday 15th September from 1200hrs - 1900hrs.  This is being organised by FETAV and 'Taste of Fethiye' and is being held to promote local crafts only, so all produce being sold has been made locally by hand.
It will be held in the area by Poseidon Restaurant.  The turning on the left just before Muzzy's place.  Obviously there are places to relax and have a cold drink as well so I think it should be a nice afternoon out.

Sounds nice - I'll spread the word to people at the restaurant   :)

I took this from Facebook but I do wonder why events are always publicly advertised so late when clearly weeks if not months of planning goes into some locally organised events or was I the only one who didn't know this was on.

We would have displayed a poster at the restaurant but hardly worth it with just two days to go.

You are right Nichola, very often events only get press coverage after they have taken place, there seems to be no advance advertising.

I find it absolutely amazing that hardly anybody prepares in advance for anything. From my point of view, it seems ridiculous that bars and restaurants bleat on year after year that the current season is the quietest or worst ever, then don't bother to use things like the FREE forum calendar to publicise things they are doing. It doesn't cost me or make me a penny - but could them.

Same for non-bar/restaurant events, I lost count of how many I heard about the day after they happened when we lived over there. It does seem that nothing much has changed in the years since.

Surely a bit of advertising - on CBF, Fethiye Times etc is worth it, even if two more bums end up on seats, in the "worst season ever"?

Totally agree with you Keith. When I got involve with the Jazz Concert that became a benefit for Tom and Misha and subsequently a celebration of their rescue we had a 2 month advertising schedule planned out with constant coverage in the local papers, forum and Facebook with people pacing the bars, restaurants, streets handing out flyers and posters and selling tickets in the weeks running up to the event.

As a result it was a huge success with an unprecedented turn out of Turkish and Brits and the biggest ever attendance of a Jazz concert in Turkey, apparently!

I am not saying all that effort needs to go into every event but some notice, visibility of and access to promotional materials could make all the difference between success and a complete washout!

...and for next to no cost.

We're here to help promote the area, and for bars, restaurants, businesses and causes locally to promote their events. What a shame more don't take the 2 minutes to PM me - I can add an event in seconds. Then the next you hear is "oh they went to so much effort (and maybe expense) and nobody it's terrible, nobody bothered to turn up..."

I'm not talking about this craft fare, just generally.

It's like banging your head on a brick wall Keith! How many times have you asked for events info?

After the jazz Benefit Jane Akaktay and I had discussions about how to try and improve advance notification of events.

For a couple of months every week the Land of Lights sent out emails to everyone on their very extensive distribution lists to just about every school, business and organisation in the area.

They offered to print and distribute for free a What's on Guide and they even produce one copy primarily advertising "this space for free"; I even posted something about it on this forum.

And what was the response, zero, zilch, nowt.

They even went to the Belediye for help too and were told that even they didn't get to know what was happening locally either.

No doubt organisers of events will continue to operate in their own little paralleled world and continue to wonder why no one turned up!
