Need recommendation re setting up home
« on: September 13, 2012, 21:38:01 PM »
Hello

I will be signing for my home at the start of October and I need advice on the best licks to use. I don't have modern doors but still want good locks.
Can anyone help with what I should ask for and anyone know who I can get to fit them?
How much should I be looking to pay?

Also I have a question about tvs . Want something like free sat as I will using my place as a holiday home so don't want monthly subscriptions. With what I've read about digiturk losing Englush channels. Any suggestions? I won't have Internet at my house or landline so anything that involves this won't work for me.
Need to buy the tv too. I hear people bring them from the uk. Are they very expensive in turkey.

Thanks to anyone who can guide me

There's plenty of info on here about satelite systems etc. if you use the search facility.
We use a system we bought outright but have to get it re tuned each year which is a pain.
Don't take your own tv over if you are stopped at customs the banderole (duty) you will have to pay will make it not worth while.

Hi Bewva

Thanks. I'm a bit slow with anything technical . Thanks for advice re rv though . Will shop around for a tv here .
All the info is a bit overwhelming. I'll ask my neighbour what she does now. I blv she said she had digiturk

Again, thanks for taking the time to answer. Any idea about locks .

Saw posts about security and some really good locks but can't remember where I saw them and search facility not helping

Previously TVs were expensive here, but now it's worth looking here as there's not much difference between UK prices. Try Bimeks or Electroworld in Fethiye.

Unless you have an internet connection the TV is rubbish. We have paid on 3 occasions for systems to bring in english speaking tv and all have been expensive and very short lived. We have a very basic system now and still have to have it retuned on a regular basis, it goes off air too often. on the plus side the TVs have come down in price a lot in recent years. kippa had a 32 inch samsung LED for 650 lira the other week, migros and electro world -currys- have offers  also.

Locks will depend on your door type and it won't be possible to get much useful advice in general terms. A good locksmith can advise.

Attila is a good locksmith and speaks pretty good English, he has a small shop in the row opposite the Dolmus depot in Fethiye (the one by the Tuesday market site), unfortunately I have no contact details for him as I am in the UK at the moment There is also a fairly new locksmith shop at the main junction Tasyaka/Migros, next to the pilic/chicken shop on the corner opposite the canal, we have only had a key cut there, but Attila has changed locks for us and provided an excellent service.   :)

From another post -

Attilla's phone numbers: Landline 0252 632 7933 GSM 0535 218 8153.

Should still be correct.

You can get Digiturk on a monthly subscription basis once installed. The dish & installation cost a one off charge of 85tl then you rent the digibox, cost of which depends on what package you want, all you need to do is collect & return the box from Fethiye at the beginning & end of your stay.

Locksmith I used is on the "back road" just before the Fethiye market traffic lights opposite the petrol station.
