Skyfall
« on: November 08, 2012, 08:39:17 AM »
Went to see it last night with great expectation of seeing our lovely beach and surrounding area in the film, we also hoped to spot some familiar faces as just about every bar worker and boat owner we had spoken to claimed to an extra in the film.

In May this year we watched as literally hundreds of film crew set up a village opposite the surf cafe and then set about building a brilliant beach bar on escape beach and then decorating the set with classic cars, market stalls, neon signs, tables and chairs from Guvens and even a multi coloured rowing boat on the beach for great visual effect. So, you can imagine our anticipation while sat in a cinema in Liverpool last night when very early in the film we see Bond sat at the bar on Calis beach, he is surrounded by a cheering crowd as he downs a large scotch with a scorpion perched on his hand, will the scorpion sting him before he knocks back his drink? Well, I won't spoil it for you but that's was about it ! 20 seconds of footage that could have been shot in the Rovers Return !

So, like us, don't go along expecting to see a Calis travelogue, but if its a classic Bond action movie with terrific special effects, then it's definitely a film for you. We really enjoyed it.

I was an extra and our scene ended up on the cutting room floor! The market scene was scrapped and some gulet filming.

The bar where 007 saw what happened to the MI6 building was also filmed on Surf beach, plus all the filming on the boat in Shanghai was filmed in Fethiye and the bay.

Unfortunately it seems that this often happens and the many extras (there was a lot) went to see it like us and realised that we weren't in it. I still thoroughly enjoyed it though and think it was the best Bond film so far.

I used to work at a private airport in the UK and they filmed a scene there for Quantom of Solace. They were there for 4 days and the scene in the filmed lasted for about a minute!

Went to see it this afternoon in Fethiye - it was ok - but both Gill and I did think that Daniel Craig looked so much older that it might be time to call it a day! I know he was supposed to be out of condition in the storyline - but he really should spend more time chilling in Fethiye  ;D

Ps I thought even I looked younger than him this morning when I looked in the mirror without my glasses on !!!

You can be very hurtful  ;D

Forgot to say 9 TL Mon - Thurs and 11 TL Fri - Sat - Sun - hence the reason we rushed in to town today.

Very good value but no over 60's discount   ;)

Enjoyed the film yesterday in Leeds a good £6 worth but in common with previous replies was dissapointed not to have seen more of the Calis scenes.
It does illustrate though the costs of making a blockbuster today though.

I think it shows the profits of making a blockbuster more!

I wonder how many thousands of pounds were spent on scenes that hit the cutting room floor?

In my opinion it was `ok` not great and certainly not the best Bond movie ever. Ian Flemings earlier Bond movies much better... Daniel Craig comes second to Sean Connery who was (in my opinion) the best Bond ever... yet my favourite Bond movie was The man with the golden gun  with Roger Moore .All my kids ( all adults ) have seen it and out of the three only one of them said they thought it was very good... the other two agreed with me  " it was only `ok` "    but thats us    :)
