Lost Mail
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:23:52 AM »
Can anyone tell me whatever happens to lost mail. Two friends in Uk post Christmas cards together, one takes 10 days to arrive and the other is still out there somewhere. Talking to people while out on New Years Eve, post was a topic of conversation. Is there a backlog of mail in Fethiye PTT or has it just never arrived there. So annoying!!!!

It took me 4 weeks to get a letter from Antalya and the mail from the Uk can be hit and miss, we also are still waiting for cards from the Uk, so good luck waiting for it.

Neighbours received a Christmas card yesterday posted on 7th December. Last year, I got one in April, so you could have a bit of a wait yet!

Still waiting for post sent September, when enquiring about it at the PTT its treated as a big joke.
The PTT office in Ciftlik was supposed to open last summer, again when enquiring its treated as an even bigger joke.
At the last visit to the Otogar PTT sorting office there was a grand total of twenty pieces of post for the whole of Ciftlik !!post which was there on a previous trip, one month before, had vanished, none of which had been delivered.
To whom can we ask the question as to what is happening?

We have not received any mail at all since the 1st of December which was our first Christmas card sent in mid November by a very organised friend in the UK. I suggest that you go to the sorting office at the main bus station in Fethiye. We have found post we were expecting  just sitting there. I advise you to write down your name and address ( if your Turkish isnt up to it ) , and take some form of ID

It IS pot luck.  Last December I had Parcel Force uplift a box of Christmas goodies for my friend in Calis. The box weighed 15K.  It was picked up from me in Glasgow at a cost of £42 on the Monday and it was delivered to her on the FRIDAY and I was able to track it all the way.  Yet the Christmas Card is still out there somewhere.  Funnily enough, my friend in Corfu ramg me today to thank me for my Christmas Card which arrived this morning.  I posted it on 7 December.

I must have been one of the lucky ones then!!  I've regularly been receiving a couple of parcels a week from the UK during the run-up to Christmas and beyond, all received within 7/10 days of despatch.  I've just made sure that my address is written in the correct Turkish format (I think I got that info from Fethiye Times) and have had no trouble getting goods delivered to the PTT near the Otogar as Ciftlik's PTT is still non-operational.
