Broadband/TV/Mobile phone
« on: January 29, 2013, 11:19:20 AM »
How do bills for these compare to UK prices ?
(I assume broadband would come down the phone line ?)
I'm not talking a full suite of Sky channels (just the equivalent to Freeview in UK.)
A standard mobile phone contract for 'occasional' use.

   Thanks

My 'standard' 8 meg unlimited TTNET broadband comes in at 51.75 TL /month.  The line rental with TurkTelecom (mainly for the broadband but occasional call) comes in at 17.50 TL/month.

I have a PAYG mobile, I can't get a monthly account service from Turkcell, but apparently I can with the alternative provider AVEA, costs are about 20TL per month on the PAYG (I am not a big user of the mobile).

TV I suggest you search the site for alternatives.  I personally take the service from the UK using the 'unlimited' broadband service via a laptop or tablet nd connected to the TV, such as BBC Iplayer, CatchUp TV, ITV Player SkyGo etc. for which you'll also need a good quality VPN service which costs me $9.99 per month (and is useful for other non TV services).

Pretty comparable to UK then - I was expecting it to be dearer.
(but to the average Turk that probably seems very expensive - just like petrol is in Turkey !)

Be aware that 'unlimited' (limitsiz) does not always mean that.  The cheaper version of 'Limitsiz' has , in fact, a download limit of 50Gb per month and if you go over this limit you will be charged for it ( I do not know the current details). Truly 'unlimited' cost more in the region of 93 TL . I used the 50 Gb limit for a while but found that I was going over ( there is a way of checking how much you have downloaded on the TTNET site) and changed to the higher cost version. Have you tried using www.filmon.com with Google Chrome ?

My Private Network. Been using it for about four years. Never , ever a problem. 5 Pound per month but I am so satisfied that I now pay a year at a time.
