Are there not wooden slatted "benches" built into the seawall, all the way along the Calis seafront. As can be seen every 4/5 meters in the picture.

Ive been saying that for the last 2 years Lance, after seeing what Fethiye has done in one year, it will beat Calis hands down this season.

Hmmmm,

a choice between a wooden seat on the prom and a cushioned chair with an Efes in front of it......

I cant see that decision taking up much of my time   ;)

Fethiye is a lovely place but i really look forward to when i can cycle all the way to Calis down the Prom have a day on the beach and cycle back. From a neutral point of view i think Calis has it,s own qualities and is a a lovely place maybe living there all the time you only see the negatives

I cannot see much money being spent on the Çalış Beach area in the next year, all the Fethiye council money for this type of work seems to be earmarked for the main promenade extension and lock-blocking of the streets between it and Mustafa Kemal Blv in the Babataşı district.

Baz those wooden slats are useless half of the ones on the beach are to high to get up to ,go to the other side of bench it is only 6 inches off of the ground, okay you are fit and young ,i would think the majority of people who want to use the seats would prefer to sit on a seat with a back on it ,and not a couple of dirty planks what all the kids and dogs walk on .
And yes it is nice to sit down and have a drink hopefully not efes ,but you have to pay for drinks if you have to have an efes fine, but a lot of people just want to sit and relax looking out over the sea free of charge  ,fethiye prom for me every time ,hardly any dogs there no dog mess on the beach or on the grass borders unlike chalis ,also no motor bikes or scooters tearing up and down . :(

I think Lance has hit the nail on the head here, Fethiye Prom is magnificent, is well kept and makes Calis look a little shabby in comparison.  Plus you don't get hassled when you walk along in the evening by bar/restaurant hawkers, as too frequently happens along Calis!

Work continues with the prom at a pace now to, I believe, as far as the BP garage where there is small dock. Unfortunately, it looks like it might stop there, as I cannot see any evidence, or indeed plans, of pushing it on to link Fethiye with Calis along the magnificent coastline.  Unless anyone has any updates on whether the link will be made, and if so when???

Here is an update on the building of the prom from Fethiye Times that IanK highlighted in a related thread.

In fairness Fethiye prom was built from nothing - all that was sea. It's far easier to do impressive things (and I agree it is very impressive) from a blank canvas start than it is to take an existing working prom and renovate it. I do agree it looks tired and some of it (that beach side concrete wall for starters) could do with a pneumatic drill and a skip or 30.

To me the prom is not the problem - it is the restaurants. There is no better place to sit with a beer to watch the sunset than Calis prom but I have long since given up on the same menu in every restaurant served with the Calis holy trinity of rice chips and salad. It started as a joke but it really is lazy and dated. Given a week in Calis I would enjoy several drinks in several prom establishments but my top 5-8 restaurants are not on the prom (and mostly not in Calis either).

On a related subject mentioned by UBT - I don't think I have ever been "hassled" on Calis prom by the restaurant guys, not even once.
