Ten Years Ago Today
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:20:34 AM »
On the 2nd of February 2003, I flew to Dalaman from Heathrow via Istanbul to look at the crazy idea of buying a little holiday home in Calis. A lot has happened in the ten years since then, I must fill you in sometime.

Would you do it all again with hindsight?

What a question Rob   :)

I went out a boy and came back a man - well almost - I went out believing that a handshake was two people committing to do exactly what they said, and now I am sceptical of everyone I meet till they prove otherwise beyond any doubt. I sometimes think I'd change this and that. However, on the basis that nothing defines where you are today more than where you were yesterday, I wouldn't alter a thing.

I had many great experiences, a book of tales to dine out on, two kids who had a fabulous early childhood and learned manners and speak beautifully and I know what it is like to push a trolley around Morrisons like an excited kid.

Who would want to change that   :)

I learnt very quickly that after shaking hands with a Turk you should count your fingers.  ;)

Nothing like a bit of racism and tarring an entire nation with the same brush Alan. I do think that many I met had more tricks than a Paul Daniels magic box but some of the people I trust the most are Turkish. I could give everything I own to Cenk (for example) and collect it in ten years time.

I could be a lot better off from my time in Turkey than I am. Sadly for your theory the biggest thieves I encountered in Turkey were British.

Lucky for us I say. Thanks for going through all that Scunner. Good and bad. That, I imagine, is why we have this site. Fab. X
