Taxation of UK pensions when retired to Turkey
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:50:19 AM »
UK/TURKEY DOUBLE TAXATION AGREEMENT

Subject to the provisions of paragraph (2) of Article 19 of this Agreement, pensions and other similar remuneration paid in consideration of past employment and any payments made under the social security scheme of either Contracting State, and annuities as defined in paragraph (2) of this Article, shall be taxable only in the State of which the recipient is a resident.

From which I understand that HMRC would not get involved in your pension earnings once you have retired to Turkey (and become resident)

Do the Turkish tax authorites get involved ?

As I understand it:
If you receive a UK government pension ( ex civil servant or teacher for example) or the UK state pension, the pension will be taxed in the UK.  If you receive a private pension and have it paid in Turkey, it will not be taxed by either government.
Why people with private pensions receive more favourable treatment ,I do not know.

I'm afraid it's not as easy as that, I receive a private pension and I have it paid into my Turkish bank account but it's taxed in the UK first.

You need to fill in the forms George and it can still be paid into a UK bank account tax free.

If you are non resident in the UK I believe your State Pension is taxed at "0%" in Turkey and still increases annually unlike some other countries - see:
