First visit
« on: March 10, 2013, 11:13:36 AM »
We will be coming out on out first visit to our new apartment in Gunlukbasi in a couple of weeks. Even though the place is furnished there are some things we need to get. Namely crockery and cutlery and other bit and pieces for the kitchen. Also, pillows, sheets etc for the spare room. Is there anywhere locally, or are we better going into Fethiye. Also, any recommendation of goods shops for this sort of thing would be appreciated.

Thank you in anticipation.

For crockery, cutlery & kitchen stuff, Iyim in Fethiye is an Aladdin's cave. It's about half way between Tuesday market & the footbridge on the LHS as you go into Fethiye.

For bedding, I bought locally & then found that everything needed ironing, so have since replaced with stuff I bought in the UK

Agreed on the bedding - get easy care/non-iron in the UK from somewhere like Primark/Matalan. The shop Liz suggests is excellent and also see what the big supermarkets have - Migros, Kipa etc.

And finally, for the dull stuff like buckets and mops, you can't beat the Tuesday/Sunday markets.

There are one or two shops on the Gunlukbasi 'High Street' that also have crockery and mops etc

Loz & I ALWAYS use the shops on the main street in Gunlukbasi,, for household items, mops, buckets, light bulbs , etc. They tend to be cheaper than the big markets, and really friendly to deal with.
Gunlukbasi is a wonderful shopping experience, enjoy your new apartment.   ;) :D

Certainly is, when we are over Mrs Scunner always goes to her old hairdresser and I walk for hours up and down Gunlukbasi high street just having a mooch and seeing Turkey in action.

Thanks again everybody for your help. I must admit sitting in Seckin, which I take it is a local bar, sounds more appealing than the shopping.

Not at all - sitting in somewhere like Seckin is appealing but shopping to kit out a property in Turkey can be great fun too. You'll probably end up with several tales to tell  :)
