First concert (but not group) was Tom Jones when I was eleven  :-[ Think it was at the London Palladium.

First groups (but not sure in what order ) were Hawkwind, Argent, Vinegar Joe, Mott The Hoople and Mungo Jerry, all who were regulars at our youth club.  Then it was the hippy scene at the Roundhouse at Chalk Farm every Sunday, Hyde Park and Isle of Wight concerts - what a fantastic time to be around.

Hi Des, yes you are quite right Elkie Brooks sang with Vinegar Joe. Robert Palmer was also a member of the band - and very good they were.

The Sweet at the Mayfair In Newcastle (Upon Tyne for you Southerners) in 1973.  They were Glam Rock on TV but a plain old good old rock band live.

Do you remember Wakefield Theatre club and The Fiesta in Sheffield Marina... We saw The 1959 Rock and roll show at one of them.. Not in 1959 I hasten to add... It starred Marti Wilde. Heinz. Tommy Bruce..and Billy Fury...Absolutley brilliant night and Billy Fury died just 2 weeks later...He was a gorgeous looking man.

Mercury - definitely remember Wakefield Theatre Club.  Think we saw Freddie Starr there when he'd be at the height of his fame!  Would be others we went to see too but can't for the life of me remember who!   ???

Don't remember going to Sheffield much in my younger days so not that familiar with The Fiesta, though I have heard of it.  But, you're right about Billy Fury - pretty young when he died too if I remember rightly.
