Carnival week
« on: March 19, 2013, 10:39:52 AM »
I have just learned that the carnival this year will not terminate, as is usual, with the parrade and the concert will be in Fethiye square and not in Calis. It seems to me that all the hard work that the foreign nationals have put into the carnival....the carnival committee in particular....will be dead and forgotten in another year or so. Carnival week was just turning into a nice drawing card for Calis and then the local turist board got involved and bingo, they thought that they knew best. Seems to me that they want the returns but not the graft.

What a shame, just gut wrenching for the people who built it up and made it what it became.
I cannot see why all the money and resources are put into Fethiye and Calis is forgotten about.

The free concert is to mark the end of FETAV fest week and nothing to do with the carnival.

Yes I know that the concert was for Fetav but linked with the carnival parade it was a great little earner for Calis and an added attraction for the resort but now, Calis will be empty on that particular night and so much the poorer for it. The business people of Calis will now have time to reflect and wonder why they didn'y give the effort more support. Like Jackie says, where Fethiye and Calis are concerned, Calis is the poor relation.

I totally agree with you Barrie.. Peter and Chrissie started up The Carnival before I even joined the committee.. They and others members of the Then Carnival committee have put huge amounts of work into it being the success that it became..  We are very pleased and proud that the last one that we were part of 2 years ago now was the biggest and the best and we can hold our heads up that we went out on a high... We all loved doing it and its a crying shame that it has ended  .However Fetav fest should be a great week with all the charities doing their own event during the week.. The 3 CS event will be The Barbeque at Guvens and then the Spring Fayre will be the following Sunday and then of course The Promises Auction the following Wednesday. We will still be as busy as ever....The full programme of events will be announced by Fetav....

It seems very strange that there is not more coverage of there "not being a calis carnival".It was always so well received in the past that i would have thought somebody would have explained it a bit more.I know of a lot of people that have booked their holidays this year around the carnival.

Dont forget that the committee live out there and maybe by speaking out, it could have an adverse reaction from the locals now running it. Just my own personal thoughts.

After being in Calis for the very first carnival which was brill i must add  seeing it was the first attempt , and being there for the very good following 2 which were very good and to see both adults and local children enjoying something  different plus the arts / crafts down by the Mutlu, not forgetting the live show in the car park .
, its a shame in my opinion  that  locals and others including METE  who is a forum member, and involved  in the recent  ones  have not built on the wonderfull setup  and  plugged  Calis on the map more.
If METE who recently  asked on this forum for propertys for sale, so reads this forum,  could explain why not a Calis carnival this year  , it would in my opinion make things more clear..

good luck to the 3 C,S on their excellent events soon ,i ,
,
I know things are going on in Fethiye but that is not Calis and a Calis carnival would be yearly iceing on the cake

I wonder why Calis could not still have it's own Carnival??  As Calis thought of it first and did it without the help of anyone from Fethiye, why not hold a Calis Carnival??  There is room for two Carnivals in the area and I think Calis should continue it's tradition and leave Fethiye too it.
