Spec savers

How much does it cost for an eye test and are glasses competitive with Turkey in price? I am not talking about famous brands, as far as i am concerned, spec's are for seeing through not for display purposes.
Normal bog standard varifocals reactalite are good enough for me.

For over 60's eye test are free. Under 60 £10 to £15 depending on where you go.   Specsavers also give a discount for over 60's which can work out cheaper than any special offer they have on.

I don't know where you are based  when in the UK but the Spectacle Centres in Ormskirk, Wigan and St Helens are very competitive as are the Crown Optical Centres.

I would say cheaper in UK - especially if going for the likes of the Specsavers deals.
But I would also add that I think the quality of the lenses available in Turkey are better especially the types you mention when comparing them with the cut price UK stores.

Hi Jim, in what way do you think they are better?  I am considering some new ones when I come out as I find the ones I have not really balanced for distance/reading and they don't really 'react' very quickly after I have been outside

Bluwise - thats my comparison between ones from specsavers and ones bought in Fethiye - the UK reactolite was much slower to change and the UK variofocals did not have the same range of focal point as the Turkish bought ones - I cannot remember how much more expensive the lenses were here but it was not a huge amount, and for me well worth it.

Years ago it was cheaper to buy in Turkey but not now.  Best to shop around in the area you visit and it is becoming acceptable to haggle a little bit, such are the times.

I always buy my glasses in Fethiye now after years of going to specsavers and I think they are much better.
I can pay for much better lenses cheaper than the UK.
And the service is so much better. It is the optician himself who helps with choosing the frames and then making sure they are ok at the finish.
Measurements all computerised too.
In specsavers a girl does the final measurements just by holding a pencil in front of my eyes!
I will be buying another pair next month.
I also find their prescription sunglasses much better as in the UK they wouldn't make them dark enough for me,
said they aren't allowed to make them really dark!?

As a matter of interest does anyone know the discount on lenses and glasses if you have SGK?
