Today whilst we were in a meeting for FETAV Fest, the head of AYKUT Organisation, the Fethiye based search and rescue team, came in and asked us to advertise a special event that is happening in Fethiye.
Thursday 25 April is the 66th anniversary of the big Fethiye earthquake which caused devastation to the town with 67 casualties and 3200 damaged buildings. On the 25 April there will be a special programme in Fethiye to remember the casualties of the earthquake and to enlighten people as to what to do in the event of an earthquake. The day will start at 10.00 with wreath laying ceremony at the Ataturk statue in the new square followed by an exhibition of pictures of the 1957 quake. Then at 11.30 at the Fethiye Cultural Centre, AYKUT are holding a special seminar in English just for foreign guests to advise them of the risks to Fethiye and what to do and what precautions to take in the event of an earthquake. This follows on from the over subscribed event at the Alesta Hotel seminar last month. All foreign guests/visitors are invited to attend the free seminar.
