I thought about the old man last night as he loathed the woman, as did mum. He used to laugh when people said she was a great wartime leader, as the old man was often to ask what did Thatcher do during World War Two? He knew the answer, she was tucked away at Oxford University even though being old enough to serve her country, whist people like him (The old man) served across the world on half a crown a day, and perhaps more importantly as did many working class women like my mum in the ATS, while Thatcher sat it out making her way into the privileged elite.... Some legacy

1943 aged 18, still plenty of time to serve, as did many of her contemporaries, but she didn't!!

Actually she did leave us a legacy, whilst at Uni she was part of the team that invented soft scoop ice cream, "mr whippy" type stuff, another one of those take it or leave it MT type things!

I know at which University she studied.  My mother also went on to University.  Some had to have the brains and some the brawn, just the same as now.  As for fighting, what did you expect her to do?  She was a woman, though with bigger balls than most men I've met in my life.  My mother helped out at the WAAF whenever she could, where she met my father who was Lancaster bomber crew. What did your mother do to help the war effort usedbustickets?  We can't all have everything and it's a little late now to be able to ask her what she did, if anything.

Ultimately, history will decide whether in the long term she was good for this country or bad. I personally think she did this country a great service and as yesterday, I think it's a little early to slag the woman off.  I will now leave this conversation, as I did yesterday because, though I appreciate and accept we all have differing opinions, I found it a little early to be bad mouthing, slagging off...call it what you will, a woman who only passed away in the last 24 hours and has no way to defend herself.

I wish you all a good day and happy arguing.

Now that surely is the subject for a new thread.

Yes, having big balls is ok when dealing with someone else's life.

Loz - this is where problems arise.

Supporters of Margaret Thatcher, and there are many, do not have a problem with others who considered her an ogre.

But when people mention her name in the same breath as the names you sited, then people get upset.

Well said H! Spot on!

So, even before I have the chance to leave the house, along come the most argumentative people of all, pick out just one tiny piece of what a person has said and turn it into a contentious issue!!

You must have so very little to do and so very much time to do it in!! How very sad for you!
