Ding Dong! Play the Song?
« on: April 10, 2013, 17:26:58 PM »
It looks like the download Ding Dong The Witch is Dead will be in the UK Top Ten this week. Should it be played on the BBC's charts programme? The radio station Capital FM has apparently "solved" the problem by removing it from its top ten list - expunging it from the record. But that's a commercial outfit which kowtows to its advertizers' wishes. What about our national broadcaster? What standard should we expect from them?

They should report and reflect what is happening, as it is funded by us.

I know of the song, I have no idea how it goes though.

I agree Scunner.  To remove it would be tantamount to gagging the people that bought it.  Not very democratic.

Well if you behave yourself this time Des I think it will have a better chance of being a discussion about principles.

crikey, someone wants to put that in the CBF Book of Records, Des gives up after one single posting...

On the subject itself, I am sure the bbc will fudge the issue, set up an internal producer led enquiry that does not report for at least a year, and the masses will be denied the song being played on the beeb.  Just like the beeb ban on Relax by Frankie goes to Hollywood, which ironically was started by that smug DJ Mike Read, who came out later as a maggie supporting Tory.

Some compromise should be arranged.
No plays of Ding Dong and no coverage of she that is dead.
