Holiday Habits
« on: April 10, 2013, 22:37:05 PM »
So this monday it's 3 months til I'm back in Calis! To get everyone in the holiday mood, I want to ask about holiday habits. Are there any particular things you must do on holiday?

My 5 things:

1. Relaxing boat trip, a change of scenery and something different to swim in other than the pool
2. A trip to the Fish Market
3. One crazy night in Hisaronu (I feel I'll be only one with this habit!)
4. A lunchtime visit to Mozaic Bahce
5. Walk from one end of the prom to the other on the first morning, to see any changes

I wouldn't say all these are deliberately done when we visit, some just happen and I've noticed it's been done every year we've been!

Ha ha, one of my favourite topics :D

The must do's for us:

1. Fish Market evening (time of year/evening temperature allowing)
2. Boat trip ((time of year/temperature allowing)
3. Mozaik Bahce
4. Chicken doner wrap at Chez Frank de la Cannon on arrival in resort (flight time permitting)
5. Sahil Lokantasi lunch admiring the traffic lights. Traditional order is one Iskender kebap, one cheese and mushroom pide
6. A trip to the hairdressers in Gunlukbasi and a shave round the corner (you can decide which of us gets which)

Also, p1ssing around trying to get a sim card and phone that work together   ;)

1. State, categorically, that I am not going to go to the market.
2. Argue with Mrs B about 1
3. Go to market.

But, Mr BA, do you recall a time when a trip to the market was right up there on your own list?

I do, but today I find it possibly the most irritating place on the planet.

After my first few trips to the market I came to the conclusion that it was the most tedious part of the holiday, especially in August when its a million degrees under the canvas.
hello boss, cheaper than Asda, Cheaper than Matalan etc.  >:(

Also the prices went on up as the quality went down and down. I remember us being stopped on a return to the UK for a holiday at customs where we were asked several questions in a laid back "i have to stop someone and sorry it's you guys" manner - one being "have you brought back large quantities of products from Turkey". I can honestly say I had no idea what he talking about as he'd already covered fags and booze - and asked "like what sort of thing?" His reply was "you know, like fake T shirts..."!

We informed him we were arriving in the UK for a week of T shirt buying in Tesco, Matalan, Asda, Primark, Sports Direct - and definitely not bringing any rubbish in with us..!

My first visit I must admit to being mildly curious but after about 20 minutes in there I came to the conclusion that it's just a load of old tat.
Mrs B is, however, still under the misapprehension that if she goes enough times she will find the Ark of the Covenant.
It really is the only time on holiday that we seriously disagree.

1 cheesecake at the Blue cafe Fethiye people watching
2 Ocakbashi dinner on the first night
3 cocktail ( or 2) on the buzz bar terrace
4 Friday fruit and veg market ( love it when a trip falls with an arrival time on A Thursday so I can stock up)
5 learning a new set of Turkish words, last year was vegetable related ( including carrots, red and green cabbage, carrots lettuce, onion and many others)

Totally rock and roll
