I had a similar experience with Premier Inn. Booked a hotel for a wedding and they changed the dates. No refund so I wrote a nice letter to see if they would let me change hotels. The reply was no way and please ring to cancel your booking. My reply was - I might come or I might not. Please keep the room open for me.

They ain't renting it out to someone else without a fight  ;)

I paid £250 with 20 kilo luggage time someone pays the name change that is another £35....

That may be to your advantage. The problem is that you pay the £35, plus the difference between what you paid and what a seat on the new flight costs now. This can be hundreds more if you booked cheap and early.

At least you won't have to find a huge amount more if you change to another flight.

Yes it applies to all airlines, (charter ones anyway) they charge you to change all legs of the journey.
