Short Term Parking at Dalaman
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:54:42 AM »
I am taking my 87 yr old Mother to the airport today and would like to park after dropping her and Gill off at the top of the ramp and walk back up to see her case is checked in and walk her through to passport control before saying goodbye to her.

She has been ill whilst here with a chest infection (aircon most likely on the flight over) so she has been on a drip for a day and had doctors visits and injections twice a day for a week and the doctor has given us a "fit to fly" note and a request for a wheelchair and assistance as we get to the airport.

I am not sure if this will start as soon as we enter the airport as we hand the doctors note to security or at the check-in - which is why I may need to park below and walk back up.
Is it possible to do that if I need to???

She is being met at the other end by my brother and does feel quite well now so we are not as concerned as we were a week ago.

Yes it is, either park in the domestic terminal car park or double back & go into the arrivals car park then walk up the ramp & to the left there are steps up to the departures entrance.

Hi Ian

Just for your information-ask at security for a wheelchair, they can get a porter to get one for you & help your mother check-in. They will need to know which airline she is flying with as the different handling agents have their own wheelchairs.

Check in will need to see your mother's 'fit to fly' letter, they usually take a copy and give you back the original either at check in or at the gate. Check in will ask if your mother can walk onto the plane (most gates are airbridges but if not they have ambilifts to assist) and assign her a seat accordingly.

The porters will then take your mother through passport control in the wheelchair & to the gate area.

The cabin crew will organise your mother's wheelchair on arrival in the UK.

Hope this helps.

Jo

Hamlet & Jo - thank you very much indeed - that helps me a great deal.

I was going to fly with her and turn around and come straight back but she wouldn't hear of it and although she can walk (with a stick) at 87 I had visions of her struggling to get to the right gate etc. - so this is the best option.

Thank you.
