Gemiler Bay
« on: May 08, 2013, 06:15:43 AM »
Went there yesterday only to find the pine pollen "pollution" spoiling the swimming. No advice or warning as to this at the pay point so be warned. Such a pretty place so hope this clears quickly.

Scorcher, pine pollen is a natural occurrence in an area where there are pine forests.  It is part of Mother Nature's big picture and you canot have beautiful peaceful surroundings with lovely pine trees without the natural things that occur to the trees at this time of year.  There is nothing anyone can do about this, apart from accept it, it is natures way.  I would certainly not expect them to put up notices warning people about a pollen hazard.

Well thank you for all of that and I'm only too aware of the natural order of things. The purpose of the post was to advise folk that swimming was on a bit of a hold and to prevent a wasted journey and disappointment.

Pollen is pretty harmless stuff, even for hay fever sufferers. The pollen is not in the air but contained in the water. A quick shower will get it off.

I don't think that you would get a warning in the UK to beware of t--ds floating past, or raw effulent being discharged into the sea. I guess that it is all natural but I think I would prefer pollen to s--t.

I wouldn't worry about the pollen at Gemiler, but I would worry about the rip-off prices.

Catch a dolmus into Fethiye and then get a dolmus going all the way from there to Gemiler from behind the big white mosque or from outside the Otogar.
