Can you book a package holiday and only use the flights ?  I was always told that unless you book in to the hotel they can cancel your flights.  Is this true?

Several people that I know do it. Just tell the rep on arrival at the airport / resort that you won't be using the hotel.

A friend of mine always books a one week package holiday. Sometimes to Bodrun, Marmaris or Antalyia this he calls his holiday, before travelling on to Calis where he stays from May-Oct. He has been doing this for a number of years now and finds it cheaper than buying a flight only return, and just advises rep of his intentions on arrival.

We did this once, we arrived very late so stayed in said (awful) hotel that night and left in the morning. It worked well as we had technically booked in by staying the night. Out of courtesy we just told reception we were off travelling.

We did this a couple of years ago. I told the rep at Dalaman that we had met an old friend on the flight and were going to stay at their place  ;). Worked fine and saved us a small fortune. :D
