Change to EasyJet cabin luggage
« on: May 16, 2013, 16:20:53 PM »
I know this should perhaps go on another site but I want as many people to see it as possible.  From 2 July, EasyJet are changing the size of of cabin luggage from 56 x 45 x 25  TO:  50 x 40 x 20.  Anything in excess of this will have to go in the hold and will be chargeable.  Beware !

This is the full info off their website.  there is no mention of charging to go into the hold;

Read about our new cabin bag guarantee for travel from 2 July.

Overhead locker space on board our aircraft is limited, which means on busy flights we’re not always able to fit everyone’s cabin bag on board. So to make things fair, we’re introducing a cabin bag guarantee from 2 July.

From 2 July, if you bring ONE piece of cabin baggage no bigger than 50 x40 x 20cm including handles and wheels, we guarantee it will always travel with you either in the overhead locker, or if necessary, under the seat in front of you.

You can still choose to bring ONE slightly bigger bag up to the maximum size of 56 x 45 x 25cm including handles and wheels, but on some busy flights your bag may have to go into the hold.

Or, if you’re an easyJet plus cardholder, FLEXI fare, easyJet plus Upfront or Extra Legroom passenger:

You’re allowed ONE piece of cabin baggage no bigger than 56 x 45 x 25cm including handles and wheels. Overhead locker space is limited so please use easyJet plus Speedy Boarding to board first in order to secure space in the overhead lockers.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEW CABIN BAG GUARANTEE ONLY APPLIES FROM 2 JULY 2013.

It would be nice if they actually enforced this, some of the wheeled behemoths I've seen people heaving up into the lockers are clearly miles bigger than the allowed maximum.

I tried taking a case that was 2 inches higher than allowed as hand baggage on an Easyjet Christmas flight to Amsterdam.
Got refused at check-in so unpacked it into a bin liner that I was taking for dirty washing and dumped the suitcase.
It then squeezed quite nicely into the frame  :D and I turned up at the hotel looking like Father Christmas.

LOL, I once used a Tesco reusable bag (blue with ladybirds all over), tied up with string, as handluggage.  I was unique :P

The last time I flew Easyjet, three weeks ago, the last 20 people in the queue - including us - were told that our cabin luggage had to go in the hold. There was no charge for this and the baggage was delivered on the conveyor belt. This disappointed me; I had hoped it would be "ramp load".
