Do you suspect they bought £500 worth of meat then said their card was nicked?

If not, what is very suspect about it?

The machine swallowed the card, they phoned the bank straight away without leaving the machine and stopped it. There was cash taken, according to the bank the crooks started trying to draw £1000, then decreased the amount asked for each time until the machine paid out, £300 of meat and £300 in another shop, clothes I think she said.

Oh wise one scunner, I meant by suspect that the seller of the meat may have been in on the scam as this is not your usual "quarter of spam!"

Am i missing something?? If your friends didn't leave the machine and reported the card stolen and had it cancelled immediately, how did the thieves manage to get the card and spend on it???

Are you sure the machine didn't swallow A card and not theirs? otherwise they got away with nothing and managed to draw on it?

I think Tink's theory is most plausible.
The con man shoved another card in the machine and took the genuine card away and spent on it while the victim stays with the machine reporting his card being stuck in the machine.

It would surely have been better if we had been told exactly what happened from the off then it would have saved speculation, assumptions and snide remarks.

Since they started scamming these machines, quite a few years back now, I never use them.  If I want to stay local, always use the one next to the police station in Gunlukbasi, hopefully safest place, unless the police are in on it lol.

We only ever use the ATM's outside banks during bank open hours and always go together, one to do the transaction and the other to stand behind. Never let the card out of sight and cover the keyboard while entering the PIN number. We even do the "card in and then cancel to get it back" bit sometimes if there was nobody in front using the machine. You just can't be too careful these days.
