Bodyguard
« on: June 12, 2013, 21:35:32 PM »
A nice little story:

My son, Adam, has just flown back from Thailand with Pakistan Airways and whilst in Lahore airport he was treated a little like a celebrity - being the only westerner in sight.

Well as he walked along he was followed by about four airport staff and one of them insisted on helping him navigate the transfer. As they walked he said to my son " bodyguard"  Adam replied, puffing his chest out "thanks".

A little further along the guy said "bodyguard" again - and again after a few more yards. Adam by now was flexing his muscles and feeling ten feet tall. Then they guy looked up again and said:

"No - boarding card"

He tipped him 1000 bahts as that's all the curreny he had. Turns out £20 is about three weeks wages but it was worth it for the story alone  :)

A classic airport story Stoop :D

It reminded me of one of mine. Back in the old days of the "old" terminal, it used to be almost deserted out of season. If you were there, you were either getting a TA flight to Istanbul to connect to the Heathrow flight, or you were mopping the floor. Two of us were waiting for the flight (everyone else was in the domestic terminal waiting for the same flight but as an internal flight, not a transit international one like us two).

Anyway, the flight was delayed severely and it became quite obvious that we would miss out connecting flight from Istanbul to Heathrow. We found a Turkish Airlines lady who apologised profusely and told us there was a later Heathrow flight about 8 hours later. I asked what she expected us to do for 8 hours in Istanbul airport and she was great, she printed off two VIP passes for the TA lounge at Istanbul (and that really is eat and drink all of anything you like, not like crappy Dalaman VIP lounge).

She then printed off our new boarding cards and I could hardly believe my eyes - in big letters was "1st" - 8 hours eating, drinking and internet followed by first class flights to Heathrow. How lucky can you get?

Well not quite that lucky as things turned out. It was not "1st", but "IST"...
