In the mid nineties there was a tractor train that went from Calis to Fethiye. It followed the same route as the belidye sahilden bus.

I would say this would definitely be for me.  It would, IMO be a great money spinner and bring in a lot of tourists to travel up and down the prom.  Image in the school holidays all the kids would want to be on it. I would love to take my Granddaughter for a ride on something like this.   I cannot see a thing wrong with this idea.    I know lots of people now like  to come to Calis because they want to journey on the water taxi, so this would be great for when they arrived to give them a  first look at the fabulous views from the prom.
How about mentioning it to Mete?

Scunner - they have one in Praia da Rocha and it's well used. I don't even think it goes that far and the views are nothing like what you would get on a trip from Calis to Fethiye and back.

Great idea and Lance can drive  ;)

I accept defeat in the face of such well considered enthusiasm!

It's not about us either but I agree about the family friendly tourist train, which by the way we have nicknamed ' the chuckle bus' ! We have used them in a great many resorts to get a good view of the place. They're an excellent idea!

Our name for them was the Wally train, but we became the wallies when the kids came along and we started using them - you are right they are a good way to see the place and where a few things are. We developed a game where the kids compete to wave at 'locals' to get the most waves back. In Morocco we had one man run for at least 100 metres alongside the train waving all the way. Not bad in 40 degree heat.

I reckon it could make the belediye more in a day than their narly old sun beds make in a month.

'Chuckle Bus' or 'Wally Train' - whatever you want to call them, I think they're a brilliant idea.  People of all ages would use them, especially families with young children at this time of year!  We enjoy walking along the prom but would probably also use the train if it was there.

Must surely be a moneyspinner there!

Well who knows what with the new prom and all?
Not sure how far the prom is stretching to at the Calis end (does anyone?) and I have absolutely no doubt how popular it would be. We use the Albufeira one all the time  :-[  although the views are nothing to write home about.

I think the prom will stretch all the way but if not they could always build a tunnel under the canal. That would be interesting  :)
