Brian Chambers Holiday Lettings
« on: August 27, 2013, 23:55:07 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has booked an apartment from a guy called Brian Chambers on holidays lettings in the Calis area? If so was the experience positive or negative?

I would be grateful for any information or reviews etc?

I have booked an apartment this guy and am now worried about my booking and our holiday since I discovered that this guy is a con man?

He tells people he owns the properties that he is listing for rent (he owns nothing, not even a tent)

I have heard of people arriving from Dalaman for their holidays and no apartment and no Brian (oh, and no refund)

I'm not even sure if Brian Chambers is his real name, he uses so many.

Not sure if that makes him a conman?

If he is advertisin on holiday lettings then i would contact them with these details, as in our eyes they are a reputable company and i thought people were vetted before advertising with them.

These sort of people need to be caught and taken off companies like this.

Holiday Lettings do not 'vet' any advertisers, I advertise on there and all they do is confirm your email address plus PayPal or credit card details so that they can collect their commission.

Nothing to worry about, unless of course you want to take the chance of arriving at Dalaman at some god forsaken hour and finding out your first job is sorting out somewhere to stay for your holiday.

I hope you haven't parted with any money - if you have then it may be a case of putting it down to experience and finding alternative accommodation.

The guy is pond life...

Thanks for that information Hamlet, it makes us more aware of what we rent in the future, we always try to see the apartment first and meet the people who own it, or if not possible speak to the person who mantains the complex to confirm who the owner is, i think we will stick to this in the future, but fortunately we have found some lovely owners at the moment who we love renting from :)

I'm grateful to you all for your comments and advice.
I am aware that Holiday Lettings don't vet although I have been renting holiday apartments from them for several years now, in Spain, Portugal, Canary Islands and Calis beach and have never had a problem until now.

Brian Chambers lists about 10 or so properties in the Fethiye Calis  area although only since January 13, it is noticeable that none of his properties attract reviews. The properties are also listed on holiday lettings partners site trip advisor.

I have already paid a £50 deposit, which I am now resigned to losing, although the booking was made using payment protection where holiday lettings claim they forward the money 48 hrs after you arrive at the apartment. They claim that they will refund you your money if you dont get access to the apartment. I have never used this method in previous transactions with holiday lettings although assumed this safety net would protect me.

I am surprised, given the number of properties that Brian Chambers lists, that no one else seems to have complained about him.

I am now in the position where I am travelling with my wife to Calis on the 30th Sep to the 7th Oct and need to find an alternative apartment in the Calis Beach area.

Grateful for all your response and comments.

It seems that there are a few scams going on at the moment. Last week I sent an enquiry to an owner via Owners Direct, again a reputable company who we've used before. I Received what seemed a genuine reply and all seemed ok. 3 days later I received an email, apparently from the owner, who we've never met, telling me she was stuck in the Phillipines, having had her bag and passport stolen.  She had temporary documents issued to leave the country but couldn't because she had no money to pay her hotel bill and the manager was refusing to let her leave.  I was asked if I could loan her the money and she assured me she would pay me back when she returned to the UK!! I assumed that her account had been hacked in someway and ignored the email.  There was also a mobile phone number which I also haven't tried ringing in case it's one of these numbers you ring that then charges you a fortune and it's not the same number that's on the Owners Direct site.  I have made the lady in question aware in the hope that it is really a case of a hacked account that she can sort out and not her trying to scam.

I just googled our Villa and found it listed on a site called Perfect Choice Villas.
The listing is word-for-word identical to our listing on CalisVilla.co.uk and it uses the same pictures.

I certainly didn't agree to it being listed on this site and I am not really sure what would happen if someone tried to book the Villa through this "Agent".
The owner of the site is listed as Murat Aşkın and they appear to have offices in Fethiye.

I will be contacting the site to ask them to remove us ......... does anyone know if they are anything to do with Mr James and can some one tell me where he lists his ghost properties so I can check if we are on there as well ???

Ta.
