Following on from Jacqui's Hollywood names subject.. Barrie had a mate called Splinter ba**s because his name was Alan Woodcock.. Anymore funny or un usual ones?

I have a friend called Bo. I don't why they don't call him by his real name David Lock.

My husband use to work with a guy called Isla.   He went onto Soccer A.M. with a group of his fellow football supporters and when Tim Lovejoy found out his name he pulled his leg for the whole programme.  Isla was about 6.2 and a big beefy guy.  Strange as we knew him so well we where used to his name and thought nothing of it.

I have another friend whose name is Dave but everybody who went to school with him calls him Harry. One day I asked why this was. He told me his older brother was at the same school but two years above so the older lads called him Harry Junior. Oh, I say, so Harry's your brother? No, he says, his name's Ian.


I didn't bother asking him any more questions.

My kids and their friends' nickname for me is Boris. - Reason: that the christian-name the notary office had down for me on a property in the Canaries, many, many moons ago was 'Boristan' (nothing like my real name!) but the name has stuck  - with affection!

When my daughter was at uni she shared a house with 3 other students and they had a cat called "cooking fat"  it was not a very popular animal.

My husband has worked with a few lads with strange nicknames: -

One lad was known as "Sandbag" because he always wore a long sheepskin coat the same colour as a sandbag.

Another lad was known as "Posh" because he was the scruffiest kid ever (dirty clothes, dirty hands & dirty house, apparently)

Any my favourite is "Hozzle".  This came about because, when he wasn't at work, he was sleeping in bed, always horizontal - shortened to 'Ozzle.
