Drinking Laws
« on: October 05, 2013, 14:46:53 PM »
Now we all know that most alcohol drinking rules are flouted in the UK and in Turkey but we are currently on holiday in the US & most of us will be aware of the strict alcohol purchasing rules here. Yesterday we went to a supermarket and I picked up a 6 pack of Bud Light & a 6 pack of Bud Light Lime, placed them on the checkout and was promptly asked if I had ID? Much to the amusement of my travelling companions! Apparently it is company policy to check that purchasers are aged 25+, I'm 60 and look every part of it!  :-\

I'd love to be asked to prove I'm over 25  :)

Happens to my son all the time in Supermarkets.  A couple of weeks ago my son and his wife got their shopping and a bottle of wine.  The woman asked if my son had I.D. (He is 33 years old)  He showed it, but then the assistant asked did his wife have I.D.  She did not, but the accusation was he was buying drink for minor.  (She is 27 years old).  She had to go to the car and get her I.D. holding up a large Friday night queue.  The woman gave them the wine.  My son did ask to see the Manager whilst he was waiting.
Time these assistance used a bit of common sense.  Why would a couple be buying a week's groceries and both be wearing wedding rings, if they where under 18 and he was trying to ply her with drink!!!  I understand the shop assistants have a job to do, but was a ridiculous situation.  My son said everyone in the queue started arguing with the assistant and telling her to get a grip.
My son is pleased he looks young and never minds showing his I.D. but he was mad that the woman thought he was buying drink for a minor.
