Simon, I was told on a speed awareness course 6 moths ago that there are various 20 mph limits springing up all over the place especially around schools. The signage is the key apparently as lots of them use different coloured signs such as a blue or green ring around the figure instead of the mandatory red one on a white background. These different coloured signs I was told are advisory and not enforceable.

Thanks, all our schools have the standard red bordered circular sign with a big fat 20 in the middle. I am totally in favour of 20 mph limits when children are at risk, but not at all times! Looks like our limits are enforceable and real.

I remember seeing a strange matrix sign for the first (and last) time on the M25 when we were on a visit to the UK. It simply said "switch on your radio".

Any ideas why?

Correct.

It was an eerie feeling to see that, as it didn't actually have any traffic related message as such. We also had reason to feel a bit weak at the knees as we were staying in Buckingham and had planned to take the girls to London that morning but as it was pretty drizzly and cold we changed our plans and headed round the M25 and off down to the south coast.
