Pretty quiet up here in York. My son even got a ferry from Rotterdam to Hull on Sunday night and said it was " a little rough".

To be honest I think we have been lucky and the South has taken the brunt if it.

Not the south west, it was a run of the mill storm (rain and wind) and even my plastic bin that I put out on Sunday with our recycling in was still as I left it in the morning. I blame 24 hour news channels and a lack of news over the weekend for all the hype!

There were enough trees down in North Surrey/Greater London to close a good few roads so I assume there were others in peoples gardens etc.

Never seen so many tree man vans and I didn't say arboriculturist because most of them aren't they just cut trees down!!

My neighbour's bin was on the other side of the road this morning. Luckily, he lives on the other side the road.

I feel for those that lost loved ones, homes etc in the "Hyped" storm warning.  I had to go out yesterday and as I drove round so many trees down, and some car damage.  I hope the many thousands of people still without electricity are OK especially the elderly.

Not quite as bad as 1987, "what storm, nothing to worry about"  luckily my son who was 3 at the time was in my room that night when the roof came off above what was his bedroom. Damned Hype!

Some of the attitudes aggrieve me, when the North, especially Cumbria has torrential rain, again many losing life and home, we in the Sunny South only has to listen to the news, there were warnings in place then, did we scoff? no. Nothing but Hype!

Another asked "why are trains affected"? well if they had ignored the "Hype" we would be reading of carriages derailed and many many more lost lives.

Some of us have family who work at sea or in the fields, it is always a concern, hyped or not.

It would now appear that the media are damned if they don't warn and damned if they do.  We are not a nation to be pleased.

The worst we got here was a strongest gust of 32 mph which is hardly out of the ordinary. But I didn't scoff at all the hype. Instead I felt very lucky that the worst of the storm passed south of Bristol. My previous house was hit by tornadoes on two occasions and it is bloody frightening. We should remember that along the channel coast the storm cost the lives of four people.
