Car Insurance - Here We Go Again
« on: November 27, 2013, 18:13:02 PM »
I'm sure I've mentioned this in previous years but anyway - my car insurance is up for renewal soon. My current insurers (Hastings Direct) have sent my renewal quote (which will automatically happen and be charged unless I phone them), and the quote is for £216.

I checked a price comparison site and can you believe the cheapest quote is £151 - £65 cheaper.

If you can, can you believe who that's with...Hastings bloody Direct  >:(

New clients always get big discounts   , existing client renewals pay for this in my opinion hence the difference,

Each year I do a search of like for like insurance  of both home and car  and move to them I make very very  good savings, this year my car is with LV  ,,my home with  Direct Line best deals ive had for some years

My RAC was due last month  the renewal was £52 more with them direct  , U Switch was  £ 85 less RAC said that's for new clients SO at midnight when it expired  I did not renew  BUT at 8 am I did it via U Switch  and got the £85 reduction

We had a similar thing with Churchill.Got 3 policies with L V now and they come up on
comparison sites the same as their renewal quotes.Read somewhere that L V were
undercutting most competitors to build up a large customer base.Cheapest for us.

My youngest son had a renewal quote off Ecar for his Audi TT two weeks ago for £1,996.74p
He went online and got the same cover for just over £900.Thats some difference.
Hes not here at the moment to give new companies details.

Well, I shall do what I did last time. Cancel with Hastings Direct, and then take out insurance online with Hastings Direct. :(

If you phone them they usually match the online quote.

Which just shows what a racket it really is
ps. NEVER tell an insurance company what you have been quoted.Just ask them what THEIR best price is.

Nope, been here before and they say they use the same costing system as the comparison sites and can't match it.

We are with Admiral and their online quote was cheaper than their renewal, and they matched it. But it's all a rip off why not just quote a reasonable price to begin with.
